Q What is Mail-A-Book?

A Mail-A-Book is a collection of paperback books, DVDs, videocassettes, audio books on cassette, audio books on Compact Disc and e-books which are lent free of charge, by mail. This tax-supported service of the Arrowhead Library System provides library service directly to your home. We even pay the return postage!


Q Who is eligible for this service?

A Rural residents, those who live in a city without a public library, and homebound residents living in a city with a public library. This service is available to residents of Carlton, Cook, Itasca, Koochiching, Lake, Lake of the Woods and St. Louis Counties. Rural residents who live in the following Itasca County areas, are eligible for Mail-a-Book service only if they are homebound: Town of Arbo, Town of Blackberry, Town of Feely, Town of Grand Rapids, Town of Harris, Town of Sago, Town of Spang, Town of Wabena, City of Cohasset, City of La Prairie, and the City of Warba. Homebound residents within the city of Duluth and Virginia are served by their city library.


Q How does this service work?

A Our catalog with over 450 titles is sent to your home twice a year. The catalog has order cards for you to request materials. After you request the materials, they are sent to you in a cloth bag with a prepaid postage label to use when returning them.

A Books in Large Print, A Children’s Summer Reading Program, An Adult and Children’s Winter Reading Program, Interlibrary Loan Service, Catalogs listing: Videocassettes, DVD’s, Gemstar e-Book Readers, Audio Books.


Q May I order materials not listed in the catalogs?

A Yes, Mail-A-Book keeps a wide variety of older materials not listed in the current catalogs. If we do not own the title you would like, we can request it through Interlibrary Loan. Your request will be sent to another library. There is no charge for this service; however, you are responsible for returning the materials, either by paying return postage or returning the materials to the bookmobile or one of the 29 public libraries in the Arrowhead Library System.The Mail-A-Book order card has a box to check to let us know if you want us to send your request to another library.
